PROJECT 03 +
Cleansing Spaces
November 2025
During my time at 21D I was tasked with making several full length educational animations. These were aimed at answering important questions, and explaining significant topics to do with Full Mouth Implants.
One clear topic which patients voiced their concerns about was the 'cleansing space'. An area engineered between the prosthetic and gumline which would help prevent debris buildup and infection.
This video was made to explain this space is necessary for clinical reasons, with a comparison showing the effects of not having one in place.

THE BRIEF
Tackle the 'cleansing space' FAQ. Address key concerns fed back to us from patients. Ensure that all visuals are clinically accurate, but explain in a way that regular patients with limited knowledge can easily understand.

STORYBOARD
SHOT ZONES
This project required a well planned storyboard. It was ambitious containing roughly 15 scenes and over 25 shots.
This was to be completed across roughly 5 weeks as a solo artist, and this included all modelling, texturing, simulating and animating.
04 - Technical Breakdown +
TECHNICAL BREAKDOWN
A small look into a difficult part of this project.
01 - Bathroom Scene
By far the most difficult scene to make. A complex scene involving hand-animating, fluid simulations, hair simulations, and high-poly assets.
Solving the toothpaste tube on the toothbrush was potentially the most difficult of these.
At the time I had limited knowledge of houdini and given time constraints I opted to use a variety of blender techniques instead to get the right look.
I needed to show a combination of a viscous simulation, combined with a hair simulation as the tube rubbed against the bristles of the brush.
To do this I first, in a separate scene, dialed in correct viscosity and collision physics to leave the iconic toothepaste nub.
Then I added some secondary motion to the bristles using a curve and deform modifier. An easy/lightweight method to creating some bristle movement. Lining up the timing resulted in a good approximation of the movement.
This was then exported via an alembic into the main scene and used in combination with a separate alembic pre-exported tap simulation to create the correct effect.
02 - Character Creator
Character Creator 5
Utilising external tools for character creation and some animation.

For the character in this project I utilised Reallusion's Character Creator 5. By adjusting certain morphs and sliders, as well as adding some extra texture detail, I was able to create a realistic older high poly character. Using the CC5 plugin with Blender this could be fully imported with a baseline preset animation and rig. I then modified this rig and made custom animations for scenes like the bathroom.
