APP LAUNCH

December 2025

ABOUT

In 2025 21D launched a brand new app dedicated to making the process of patients getting their surgery as simple and transparent as possible. This was a short ad aimed with the sole purpose of getting people excited and to try out the new app.

03 - Technical Breakdown +

TECHNICAL BREAKDOWN

A small look into a couple of key elements in the project.

01 — Glass shader nodes

02 — Ripple geometry nodes

Standard glass lacks the detail needed to show a screen convincingly, so I rebuilt the real layers of a phone display. Individual pixels add texture, and slightly exaggerated RGB IOR values split the light paths, making the red, green and blue refraction visible.

I wanted a simple but effective morph effect for when the icon jumps out of the screen. Built in Blender geometry nodes and fully procedural, it uses a null as a proximity sensor to drive a wave texture that displaces along the normals. It can also be swapped for a standard X/Y/Z direction. Parameters like height and ripple range are easy to tweak, and an extra section handles noise or other texture patterns. For this project I opted to stick with a standard wave because it gave a cleaner look which fit the brief better.
